Club History

In 1962 a group of villagers applied for permissionfor the provision of a tennis court and pavilion to Preston Rural District Council on the the then recently acquired playing field

Donald Smithies, headmaster at Goosnarghs Oliversons school, was the first Chairman, Jim Roberts a local grocer, secretary and Mr Tom Cook (a salesman) was the treasurer. Fundraising was required for such a project and this began in the village hall with domino drives, jumblesales along with coffee mornings at various homes and a BBQ at Chingle hall. These events were all were very successful and raised £1,200 for the courts and a further £1,200 For the pavilion.

The courts were opened by the then president Mrs Winfred Eaves- herself a talented tennis player and supporter of the club as is her daughter , a current member and regular player Mrs Pat McGrath.
