Want to learn a new sport , not played tennis for years, want to play as a family, want healthy exercise or want your children to learn a new skill?

We know that taking the plunge to try out something new can take guts, you may be apprehensive, nervous and lack confidence – the coaches at Goosnargh Tennis Club are keen to assist new and novice players of all ages and abilities and to encourage would be players, beginners, improvers, juniors or seniors to take the plunge with tennis by offering informal group sessions at the club, the opportunity to try out tennis in small groups in a relaxed atmosphere, with all equipment provided. The Committee has sub-divided into a number of small action groups. Even if you are not on the committee would you like to be involved? Meetings are informal with a target of getting stuff done efficiently – areas where support is needed include fundraising, juniors & social.

And Finally For The Season… More Silverware!!

The finale of the 2009 season was on Sunday 13Th September when winners of the Ribble First division Goosnargh met Springfields.Goosnargh were 2008 winners of this mixed pairs tournament and as a result acquired a -40 handicap whilst Springfields have achieved promotion from the 2nd team .

Springfields first pair put up a strong battle winning one of their matches against Peter Bradley and Sue Liver but Goosnargh determined to play each point at a time and ignore the handicap won the match 6-1 after 4 hours of play . There was good tennis from both teams and the bright sunshine on Sunday afternoon made a pleasant afternoon for the visitors who came to watch.

This was the final match of an excellent season for Michael Luke who has captained both the first and 2nd Ribble, first Fylde and junior teams. With the first team winning the Ribble League, the Fylde Interclub and the Cunningham Cup and the 2nd team being promoted from their division.

CONGRATULATIONS to the first team who were undefeated in the first division of the Ribble league and retaining winners title for a second year.

Congratulations to the 2nd team who are runners up in Division 5 securing promotion to Division 4.

Goosnargh has 7 teams in the Ribble, Fylde and Junior teams.

British Tennis Membership

Goosnargh Tennis Club is asking all members to join British Tennis for FREE. Not only do members enjoy a range of benefits but the more members of Goosnargh Tennis Club that apply, the Club has the greater potential of winning sports items, so PLEASE help.

Membership at the moment is free and included is; entry into Wimbledon ballot, enewsletter, tips from coaches and players, LTA player rating, Juniors only website, enotifications about tennis competitions, discounts etc etc.Also if you play singles against another British Tennis Member these matches can be recorded and count towards your rating. ITS FREE… PLEASE JOIN!!

Interclub and Cunningham Cup Winners

Goosnargh finished the season in winning form having won Fylde Interclub Tournament in August and more recently the Cunningham Cup in September.

They played Leyland in the finals of the Fylde Interclub and won 4-1 overall whilst in the Cunningham they played Withnell Fold. The finals was hosted by 2007 winners Barton and despite Goosnargh having the greater handicap won all matches played.

League and Division Winners

Goosnarghs’ A team has been undefeated in the Ribble league in the 2008 season and finish winners of the League in the first Division whilst the ladies Fylde team are set for promotion to the first divsion having won the 2nd Division this season.

The mens Fylde Team finished 2nd behind Bowerham. Despite the size of the Club Goosnargh fields a range of teams in various divisions in both the Fylde and Ribble league with 3 teams in the Ribble League,2 mens and 2 ladies in the Fylde League and a mens and ladies team in the Autumn League.

The club is always keen for new members to join the club and to trial for the teams or to play socially – why not join us! For information contact Angela on 07966 315241.
